A Langford councillor says the success of a weekend bike rave — where about 120 people biked and rolled their way on city roads and trails accompanied by DJs — shows the promise of active transportation in the municipality.
When Keith Yacucha attended a bike rave in Victoria out of curiosity last summer, he was impressed by how the event brought people together.
“It was people from all ages, backgrounds — families, kids, students, everybody just out there having fun as we went out to stops.”
The raves have become an anticipated part of the landscape of free summer events in the capital region after long-time ravers and more-recent rave organizers Alex Kalicki and Mike Stulberg decided to start hosting roving dance parties aimed at bringing cyclists to dance together in underused spaces around town.
