Trash talk: Langford-run residential waste collection idea closer to reality

According to Coun. Keith Yacucha, a city-run service has the potential to make “significant” savings for the average household of up to $200 per year.

Langford councillors have been talking trash.

A municipally contracted residential curbside garbage collection could become a reality after a staff report identified several potential benefits, including cost savings for some residents.

“Through research, staff found that residents in Langford are likely paying more annually on average for a private garbage collection service, compared to other municipalities in B.C. that either have a municipally managed or contracted bi-weekly garbage collection service with added benefits,” notes a staff report presented to council Dec. 15.
